16 slice MDCT has tremendous potential advantages in the pediatric patient. Scans times around 5 seconds perstudy of the chest or abdomen often eliminate the need for sedation. high quality studies are performed with minimal patient cooperation. Newer techniques like CT angiography and 3D imaging can become part of the tools of the radiologist examining the pediatric patient. Yet , we must always be aware of radiation dose in these special patients and must minimize dose while maximizing the information available from a CT scan.
